To heck with New Year’s and resolutions. January also brings the start of something big: Aquarius season. If you have one of these special, unique late January/early February birthdays, these Aquarius cakes are perfect for your celebration.
Harry Styles. Shakira. Oprah. What do they have in common? They’re all richer than us. They’re also all Aquarians. One of our favorite things about these air signs is the fact that they’re kind of a three-for-one deal: an air sign symbolized by a water-bearer, inspiring cakes that are straight fire. Talk about an efficient zodiac sign.
Bakers everywhere have drawn inspiration from Aquarius season and concocted cakes that turn “Aquarius” into “AquariYUM.” Minus the fish. So gather your amethyst and garnet jewelry. Get those water jugs filled. And slice up some cakes to celebrate the Aquarius in your life.
27 Truly Unique Aquarius Cakes
1. Aquarius Symbol
The Aquarius glyph of two parallel zig-zag lines symbolizes water being blown by air, representing the dissemination of knowledge. It also represents a delicious cake, because zig-zags mean lots of crunchy corners and deep flavor.
Covered and layered with dollops of cream and topped with treats like macarons, we wish the glyph had just a few more zig-zags. But not so many that we have to be worried about getting sued by Whataburger.
2. Aquarius Vibes Cake
There’s something really beautiful about this subtle approach to the Aquarius cake. Scratch that – there’s a lot of somethings that are really beautiful about this.
The teal frosting, the whisps of whimsical plants, and the delicate flower on top? They all make for a cake that isn’t explicitly Aquarius until – BAM – a plaque at the front. It combines unapologetic identity with immersive vibes, and we love that.
3. Aquarius Season Cake
We already thought we wanted to find a way to drink frosting. But now that we see frosting being poured out of a jug, we’ve never been more sure of anything in our lives.
Featuring a fondant crust of the Aquarius constellation in the night sky, the flowing water depicted on this cake gives it a beautiful sense of motion. And reminds us that we need to pee.
4. Aquarius Goddess Cake
We wonder if the cake artist was using a mirror for reference, because they must be a goddess to do this.
On a bright blue background, they also incorporated the glyph and constellation to make sure that everybody knows: it’s Aquarius season, baby.
5. Barbie-core Aquarius Cake
As much as we love the memories of elementary school birthday cakes turning our mouths blue, there’s a lot of ocean-hue action going on during Aquarius season, so it’s refreshing to see a different color scheme.
The shades of pink, beautiful piping, whimsical butterflies, and pearl glyph remind us that even though it’s Aquarius’ time to shine, there’s always time to acknowledge the box office success of Barbie.
6. Betty Boop Aquarius Cake
Know an Aquarius who is afraid of water, but drawn to 1930s cartoons? That might seem like a niche category, but the world is big and there’s a market for everything.
This is a quirky way to celebrate the Aquarius Queen in your life. As long as you have the talent to make brown ruffles look this good, and not like our German shepherd got into the kitchen while we were frosting. Hats off to this baker.
7. Groovy Aquarius Shag Cake
Mark our words: Mom jeans came back and so, too, will shag carpet. If a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, this frosting will certainly make shag more palatable.
For the grooviest Aquarians out there, this multicolored, vibrant option is bound to catch your eye.
8. Aquarius Stars Cake
Carolina, we’re not mad you didn’t invite us to your party. No, seriously. We definitely didn’t want a piece of this beautiful palette-frosted night sky with a cascade of dragée stars.
Honestly, Carolina, don’t worry about us. “Happy” birthday.
9. Aquarius Symbols Cake
We didn’t think we were so materialistic until we saw this cake and immediately went “ooo shiny!” But do you blame us?
This cake is topped with a gold pitcher, the cake is rimmed with gold, and it’s populated by glossy orbs? It’s so pretty that we’re okay thinking about the possibility that maybe it’s not real gold.
10. “Cute But Aquarius” Cartoon Cake
The trend of frosting cakes with bold black lines to make them look like comic books has always impressed us. And it makes us feel less alienated when we look at people and instead see giant legs of ham.
With those signature bold lines and disproportionately huge sprinkles, our only criticism with this cake is that it’s not comically large.
11. Aquarius Galaxy Cake
Please excuse us while we work to pick our jaws up off the floor after seeing this incredible mirror glaze. This one had us gawking for so long that the neighborhood kids had time to hold a contest to see who could throw the most blueberries into our mouths, and the cops finished their investigation into how they got into our house.
But between the glossiness and marbling of the glaze and the simple piping of the constellation and symbol, we can’t blame ourselves. Plus, free blueberries.
12. Gothic Aquarius Cake
When people talk about the drip, this is what they mean. For the goth Aquarius, this cake is the highest tier, by which we mean the quality and the fact that it looks like it’s about 70 layers tall.
With bold black frosting, clean drips, and black foliage on top of a towering cake featuring the Aquarius constellation, we’re ready to listen to Slipknot and grab a fork.
13. For the Aquarians Cake
It’s not often that we say cakes look too good to eat, but this is one of those times. It’s gorgeous fully frosted, but actually transitions to reveal a detailed picture underneath the outermost layer of buttercream.
The stunning landscape, ethereal figure, and saturated colors have us practically foaming at the mouth. Did we get our rabies shot this year?
14. Hand-Painted Aquarius Zodiac Cake
This is probably one of the most dynamic cakes we’ve ever seen. There are so many techniques, textures, and layers to this masterpiece that we bow at the feet of the artist who hand-painted – yes, hand-painted – this tribute to the Aquarius.
You hear that, AI? Hand-painted. Get wrecked.
15. Aquarius-Themed Cake
“Do you want a galaxy cake or an Aquarius cake?”
“Yes.”
And thus, this cake was born. The bulk of it is frosted with a swirling galaxy pattern, but there’s a definitely-present nod to Aquarius with the glyph. Why this artist didn’t put the constellation in the middle of the galaxy, we don’t know. But we’re also not going to question someone that does their job this well.
16. Pot of Water Cake
If someone came up to us and told us about fluffy water, we’d advice they call their plumber immediately. In this case, it really works. Could it be because frosting fixes everything? Perhaps.
The cake features water flowing from a pot atop a cake adorned with the Aquarius constellation and tasteful silver leaf.
17. Elegant Aquarius Cake
If someone going through a formative event in their adult lives were to look back and fondly remember a gentle childhood fairy tale, that memory would look like this cake.
For a subtle approach to celebrating the Aquarius, this white base with muted gray-blue tones fits the bill as the perfect background for a constellation.
18. Magical Aquarius Cake
We won’t cry over spilled milk, but we will cry over spilled water if it looks this beautiful.
Against a bold, dark blue cake studded with stars, the light sugar water sculpture and water bearer’s pot draws the eye. Hopefully long enough to sneak a third piece of cake.
19. Aquarius Ice Cream Cake
This galaxy colored heart-shaped ice cream cake gives customers two ways to celebrate the Aquarius in their lives. It either says “I <3 You” or it says “Like this ice cream cake, your heart is cold but I still want an excuse to eat ice cream.” Win-win, tbh.
20. Aquarius Swirls Cake
All those swirls piled up at the top have us thinking that the baker has done one too many unicorn cakes, and decided to take their mastery of frosting and apply it to an Aquarius cake.
We would’ve been happy with them applying it directly from the piping bag into our mouths, but we suppose it looks good on this cake accompanied by a constellation.
21. Sculpted Aquarius Birthday Cake
Balancing that water heavy water pot on her head has got to be why the figurine at the top has such a solidly snatched core. But we thank her for her hard work, because it gave us this cake, with mystical deep green water that gracefully transitions into flowers.
Three questions. Does that water weigh more, is it good for the skin, and do they sell it at Whole Foods?
22. Minimalist Aquarius Cake
Simple. Clean. Minimalist. Aquarius cake, but make it Wes Anderson.
23. Golden Details Aquarius Cake
Green? On an Aquarius cake? Are you crazy? Yes, but crazy works sometimes, and we’re crazy for this cake.
The gold decorations pop against the deep green frosting, just like we’re ready to pop anyone who doubted whether green would work.
24. Aquarius Zodiac Wheel Cake
Although all of the zodiac signs are featured on this cake, Aquarius is the true star. Well, the constellation of stars. They all are, but you know what we mean.
While we’re clarifying things, this is what we mean when we say “tasteful (peach) stuff.”
25. Starry Night Aquarius Cake
There’s no way Van Gogh could have known what kind of influence “Starry Night” would have had, or that the inspiration would make its way into the world of cake decorating.
But we think he’d be thrilled to hear it. Well, maybe not hear it.
26. Aquarius Geode Cake
We tried to fight the urge. Truly. We know the artist spent a lot of time and care crafting this geode cutout. We know the artist and the customer deserve better. But we just have to say it: this cake…rocks.
27. Aquarius Constellation Cake
Astronomy would have been way more exciting if our professors used cake to teach us about all of the constellations. This baker is probably well on their way to tenure after adorning this cake with the Aquarius constellation, atop a blue buttercream gradient to represent the water-bearer.
With sprinkles around the bottom rim and generous rosettes of frosting on top, we’ll be thinking about this constellation cake for a long, long time.
