This March welcomes both Easter and St. Patrick’s Day, but what about the other 29 days of the month? Why bother looking for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when the real riches lie just behind the sliding doors of Trader Joe’s?
As we crawl out of February darkness and into Spring, leaving our homes becomes less daunting. Sure, we still have to suffer through the inconveniences of public ventures like pants, but we look to the light at the end of the tunnel, or rather, the register at the end of TJ’s aisles. Here’s our picks for the best items at Trader Joe’s this March 2024.
The 18 Best Trader Joe’s Items to Buy in March 2024
1. Chocolatey Drizzled Strawberry Kettle Popcorn, $3.49
Chocolate-covered strawberries may shine during Valentine’s Day, but just like All I Want for Christmas is still a banger in July, the fruity confection cannot be bound by something so arbitrary as a calendar.
Chocolate-covered strawberries are delicious. Kettle corn is delicious. One of the things that makes food way better than people is that if you take two foods that slap and put them together, you get a great snack. Do that with people and you have a relatively tame episode of Real Housewives.
2. Brookie Caramel Candy Clusters, $3.99
You kind of know something’s going to be good if it’s built on a foundation of a brookie. Except for that new apartment complex. Talk about an architectural oopsie.
But when it comes to sweet snacks, a brookie is a great start. Adding on caramel, dark chocolate, and sea salt gives you a treat that’s rich, sophisticated, and sweet yet curiously salty. Feel free to use that as your Tinder description.
3. Spaghetti Carbonara, $4.29
It may not be as dark and cold out anymore, but we can always find an excuse for a cozy night in with a fuzzy blanket, a queue full of shows, and a big bowl of pasta, specifically this spaghetti carbonara.
This frozen favorite includes spaghetti smothered in savory cheeses and sprinkled with smoky pancetta, and will be way better company watching Avatar than your friend who won’t stop asking you what’s going on even though you’re watching the same exact show.
4. Mini Mochi Rice Nuggets, $1.99
You may be familiar with TJ’s standard, full-sized mochi rice nuggets, but it seems those rice nuggets have raised some tiny offspring and have sent them off to line the shelves and continue the crispy, crunchy family lineage. We imagine the whole family is very excited to fulfill their destiny of getting eaten. Parenting is wild.
5. Lemon Animal Crackers, $0.99
Trader Joe’s Cheery Lemon Animal Crackers are here to spread joy. With their lemon-flavored yogurt coating and rainbow-colored nonpareils, these crackers feel like the arrival of Spring. Each cracker is cut into one of 13 unique and delightful animal shapes, including bears, elephants, lions, bison, hippos, and camels.
6. Peas and Carrots Sour Gummy Candies, $1.29
These sweet and sour Easter basket essentials are made without gelatin or artificial colors and derive their chewy texture from fruit pectin and vibrant hues from natural sources like spirulina and paprika. Despite their veggie-inspired appearance, these candies taste like citrus fruits, not vegetables. Thank goodness.
7. Trader Joe’s Mini Tote Bags, $2.99
Picture the classic Trader Joe’s standard canvas tote, now downsized to a cute, compact version. Just like its larger counterpart, this mini tote comes in various colors — red, yellow, blue, and green — to match your mood or style.
It stands (er, lies) at 11 inches tall, 13 inches long, and 6 inches wide, making this perfect for lighter grocery loads or carrying essentials. Made of 65% cotton and 35% polyester, it’s durable and stylish, making a statement wherever it goes. It’s a compact companion for your daily errands.
8. Blueberries & Cream Yogurt, $0.69
Blueberries and cream yogurt has long been on the TJ’s shelves as part of a duo with vanilla and cream cups, but now the two flavors have parted ways and are available as individuals.
We’re really proud of the creamy yogurt and its notes of blueberry, but we have to wonder if the falling out was amicable. We know yogurt is supposed to be tangy, but we hope the split didn’t leave things too sour.
9. Vegan Pepperoni, $4.99
Gone are the days where the meat-averse need to miss out on the pepperoni. Trader Joe’s is providing a plant-based alternative to the age-old flavor disks, using a mix of plant proteins and careful blend of seasoning to achieve the taste that’s analogous with everything from childhood pizza parties to look-we’re-grown-up-now charcuterie boards. Now even your vegetarian friends can the throwing of the elbows to get to the last slice of pepperoni pizza.
10. Hold the Cone Tips, $3.99
Bugles, beware. TJ’s has a promising new competitor in the field of “things you can put on the ends of your fingers to pretend you have witch’s nails,” and man, are these delicious. These are the Hold the Cone tips you love without the ice cream but with the chocolate that fills the crunchy waffle cones. These don’t need to be frozen, or even refrigerated, so they’re a great sweet snack on the go.
11. Joe’s Os Cereal Bars, $2.99
If all bars were cereal bars, we’d be way more excited about all the St. Paddy’s Day bar crawls. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why not have it on hand, whenever you want, in the form of Joe O’s with roasted peanuts, peanut butter, and a peanut-flavored coating? Oh, because you’re allergic to peanuts? Shame we’ll just have to eat yours then.
12. Piquant Popcorn, $2.99
If you look up “piquant,” you’ll find that it basically means tasty. Webster’s Dictionary defines the word as “agreeably stimulating to the taste.” Trader Joe’s describes this popcorn as “seasoned with nutritional yeast, onion, sea salt, and garlic,” which is basically a one-to-one translation. Your Oscar party guests will love it.
13. Glazed Chocolate Donut Holes, $3.49
We are definitely against food waste. We hate to think of those poor donut holes, all alone just watching their outer rings get snatched up and left in conference rooms everywhere. These delicious chocolatey innards are not only sweet and a perfect two-bite size, but they also happen to be dairy and gluten free. They really are the hole package.
14. Beer Bread Mix, $2.99
Depending on what you start with, “just add beer and butter” can either make for a delicious loaf of bread or a very weird slip and slide. For the least risky outcome, start with Trader Joe’s beer bread mix. You can add cheese, jalapenos, or another box of mix because you already know while making it that it’s not going to be enough.
15. Cinnamon Coffee Crumb Cake Mix, $3.29
Distance makes the heart grow fonder, and we think Trader Joe’s must be savvy to this as a marketing tactic since these are only back for a limited time. Adding just a few kitchen staples to this coffee crumb cake mix will land you with a pan full of tender cake, sweet cinnamon crumb, and the neighbors practically busting down the door asking what on earth smells so divine.
16. Spicy Meat Pizza, $5.99
Pizza is good. Pizza with toppings is better. Pizza with spicy toppings? Be still our beating hearts. This pizza is loaded with smoked sausage, meatballs, and grilled peppers, and we’ll take one hundred please and thank you.
17. Double Cream Amarena Cherry Goat’s Milk Cheese, $2.99
There are few easier ways to up your charcuterie or appetizer game than simply upping your cheese game. The GOAT of goat cheeses is incredibly creamy, sweet from the cherries, and tangy from the goat’s milk. Paired with anything from simple crackers to salty prosciutto.
18. Irish Porter Cheddar Cheese
This cheese is a hoppy, malty ode to Irish Porter. And, it’s the perfect addition to your Saint Patrick’s Day charcuterie spread, a flavorful filling for a soda bread grilled cheese, and hours of entertainment for your annoying cousin if you can convince them that the marbling is a maze.
