No matter your personality or your procrastination level, you’ll find something here to wear trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, or watching fireworks while you dream of demons.
From the efficient to the creative, and the “couldn’t care less’’ to the “all eyes on me,” this range has it all. And although there are a few classic creatures listed here, not all of these costumes for women are your typical sexy devil and simple black cat.
We’re giving you plenty of options that are spooky, creepy, and proof that you keep up to date on pop culture. Finally, all those Netflix marathons have paid off!
So if you need a quick and easy Halloween costume at the last minute, or have some time to craft something intricate, here are our top picks for female costumes in 2022. Happy haunting!
The Best Halloween Costumes Ideas for Women
1. Anna Delvey (Inventing Anna)
This fake heiress with a really confusing accent became a breakout con artist in 2022. Whether you call her Anna Delvey, Anna Sorokin, or the courtroom fashion queen, this classy costume can probably be made out of things you already have in your closet.
We mean big glasses, choker necklace, and a fancy dress. Not a stack of bad credit cards and useless checks. We’re all for getting really into Halloween, but there are limits.
2. Barbie Core
Barbie is always a classic costume idea, but the upcoming movie makes it even better for this year. Take a page out of the set photos and grab some pink cycling shorts, a matching neon leotard and visor, and yellow elbow pads. Or, opt for an all pink cowgirl get up.
Either way, the rollerblades are optional. Especially if you’ve never actually rollerbladed before.
3. Vampire Bride (Mean Girls)
Sure, you could be a mouse. But why not go all-out this Halloween and dress up as Cady Heron’s vampire bride from Mean Girls. Because don’t care what Regina George says: Scary is sexy. And fetch will happen.
4. Bridgerton Costume
Regencycore is here, and we hope it’s not going anywhere. Since it’s a bit extra for day-to-day wear, it makes for a perfect Halloween costume.
We’re a bit partial to Kate Sharma’s looks – the purple, the blue, the velvet dress and matching top hat! But if feathers are more your thing, take a page out of the Featherington ladies’ book. And if you just realized why they always wear feathers…welcome to the club.
5. Wednesday Addams
Although Morticia Addams may be the reigning queen of Halloween, dressing up as her daughter is a little bit easier. All you need is a mini black dress, a white shirt, white high-knee socks, and braids.
Oh, and a penchant for murder. We hear you can get that on Amazon.
6. Eleven (Stranger Things)
Eleven has given us plenty of iconic looks over the four seasons of Stranger Things. And, plenty of stress-inducing plot points.
Choose between her classic pink dress and blue jacket, or a colorful ’80s outfit. Just don’t forget the bleeding nose and waffles. Ideally, a fake bleeding nose and real waffles.
7. The Orphan
This 2009 horror movie has come back for a 2022 revival, making it a timely Halloween costume idea for women. It’s equally creepy and easy to put together, so it’s perfect for anyone looking for a quick spook.
And a way to use that Peter Pan collared shirt you wore approximately one time when it was in style for like, a month.
8. Memorable Met Gala Looks
We’re not not convinced that the Met Gala isn’t just an excuse to have Halloween in May. So of course, there are tons of looks you can recreate for actual Halloween in October. You can go with an elebrate look from Blake Lively, or one of Kim Kardashian’s controversial outfits.
Personally, we’re a big fan of the all-black Balenciaga option. You don’t have to do your makeup, or control your facial expressions when someone starts talking about Bitcoin again.
9. She-Hulk Costume
Wonder Woman had her moment. Now, Jennifer Walters has taken her place. And then She-Hulk took her place.
We can’t promise that you won’t stay green for a full week after Halloween, but it’s totally worth it for the ‘gram. And, for really confusing your barista in the first week of November.
10. Encanto
We love a DIY Disney costume. Especially when it’s so easy to make! Just take Mirabel for example. All you need is a white frilled shirt, long floral skirt, and a pair of glasses. The short curly hair is a bonus. Or, unavoidable if you live somewhere humid.
11. Cruella de Vil
We’re happy that 2021’s Cruella gave us some clarity on that messy dalmation situation. That, and all her iconic looks, puts this on the list of best Halloween costumes for women
Use it as an excuse to try out the two-toned hairstyle, dressing as a terrifyingly sexy fashion diva, and talking in a posh accent. As long as you have black, white, and a splash of red, you can’t go wrong! Oops, except for that left turn.

12. Ghost
It can’t get any easier than just throwing on a sheet with two holes. It’s not the most creative, but it will be instantly recognizable. You’ll save five minutes of explaining your costume to every person at the party, and have way more time for snacks. Win-win.
13. Christina Aguilera
Gen Z is obsessed with bringing back the early aughts, so we’ll play their game by bringing back this timeless Xtina costume. If you want to show off some skin, the outfit from her Dirrty music video is just about as sexy as it gets.
If you live somewhere cold, don’t worry! It looks great under a parka, too.
14. Elizabeth Holmes
Elizabeth Holmes may not have given the world a miracle blood testing machine, but her go-to outfit gave us an insanely easy Halloween costume idea.
Dress as the biotech entrepreneur turned fraud by wearing a black turtleneck, heavy black eyeliner, and red lipstick. But maybe leave the blood capsules at home? You don’t want to attract the vampires.
15. Inflatable Dinosaur
Forget about your hair. Forget about your makeup. This will be the easiest, and probably funniest, costume at any Halloween party.
That is, until you have to go to the bathroom. Hey, you can’t win ’em all!
16. Doctor Strange
If you’re more wizard than witch, then skip Scarlet and go for Strange. Afterall, (gender) rules are meant to be broken! And we think Doctor Strange’s cape is just a little bit cooler. Sorry, Wanda.
17. Cheerleader
Cheerleaders’ costumes are another Halloween classic, but you can give it a twist this year by making a tribute to Stranger Things. Oh, Chrissy. We sure are sad you didn’t wake up. But we sure are glad that it gives us a spooky twist on this classic costume.
18. Maddy from Euphoria
Honestly, you could pick any of the characters from Euphoria and have a great Halloween costume. But none would be as epic as Maddy.
For one of her best looks – and there are a lot – wear a tight, back, cutout dress with detached long black arm sleeves. Then, scrounge up a plastic headband from your elementary school years for a final touch. Emotional trauma not included.
19. Mummy
This is one of those costume ideas that’s totally customizable to your preferences. Do you want to be a sexy, skimpy mummy? Or do you want everyone to wonder who’s under all that toilet paper? If you go for the later, just make sure you don’t hang out too close to the bathroom.
20. Rugrats Doll
The ’90s called, and they’re telling you to dress up in this costume. The outfit is fairly easy to create, since you can pretty much wear any bright ’90s outfit. As for the hair…well, you’re going to need a bottle or two of hair gel. And some serious shoulder muscles to hold up your arms for the whole styling session. You can tell your trainer we gave you permission to skip upper body day this week.
21. Top Gun
You don’t need a six-pack like Tom Cruise or a mustache like Miles Teller to rock this movie-inspired costume. Just wear a green jumpsuit and some aviators and you’re set! Bonus points if you show up to the Halloween party on a motorcycle. Bonus bonus points if you show up in a fighter jet. But we do have some questions now…
