If there was ever a need to be more excited for spooky season, Disney+ is here to deliver. No, we’re not talking about food delivery. We’re talking about the new Hocus Pocus 2 trailer and all the facts we know about the upcoming movie.
Although, we’d definitely be down to get a Dole Whip on demand.
Disney+ has finally released the first teaser trailer for Hocus Pocus 2, the long-awaited sequel of the Halloween cult classic. Here’s everything we know about it so far, including the cast, release date, plot, and how to stream it.
Spoiler: the answer to that last one is Disney+.
What We Know About “Hocus Pocus 2”
1. The Sanderson sisters are back.
Not necessarily groundbreaking information because how could you not bring back the original sisters? Regardless, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are returning to their roles of Winnifred, Sarah, and Mary.
They must have snacked on some children in the past 30 years because they’re still looking young and sassy. We’d follow their YouTube beauty account any day.
2. The plot is a modern-day version of the classic.
Why fix something that isn’t broken?
Hocus Pocus 2 follows three teens who accidentally bring back the Sanderson Sisters. They must figure out how to stop them before they gobble up all the children of Salem and beyond.
In the original film, it’s been 300 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle. In the sequel, it’s only been 29 years since that event. We’re not mathematicians, but at this rate, we’re expecting a Hocus Pocus 3 in 2025.
3. Hocus Pocus 2 will be streaming on Disney+ starting September 30.
At first, you may be surprised that it doesn’t have a Halloween – or at least an October – release date. But Disney knows what we really want. And that’s to binge-watch it over and over and over again the entire month of October.
And more baby yoda. Thanks for coming to our TED talk.
4. There will be a Sanderson Sisters musical performance again.
Sarah Jessica Parker mentioned there will be a musical performance (or two!) in the film. And the trailer basically confirmed it. Now, what song could be more iconic than “I Put A Spell On You?”
If the rumors are true, the sisters will be performing Elton John’s “The Bitch Is Back.” Sounds like the Sisters better start their own TikTok account.
5. There will be drag versions of the Sanderson Sisters.
RuPaul Drag Race queens Ginger Minj, Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté, and Kahmora Hall will be playing drag versions of Winnifred, Mary, and Sarah.
In the sequel, they portray impersonations of the Sisters at a drag show when the real Sisters show up. We haven’t been this excited to see something since we saw those Barbie set photos. (Not drag, just a lot of neon.)
6. Doug Jones is returning for his role of Billy Butcherson.
You may have noticed that Billy’s tombstone makes an appearance in the teaser. And for good reason! He’ll make an appearance in Hocus Pocus 2.
Billy may have been the Sanderson Sisters’ undead lackey, but he had a good heart. In theory, at least.
7. The Hocus Pocus 2 remaining cast includes well-known names and newcomers.
The three teens who accidentally bring the Sisters back include Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lilia Buckingham, and Belissa Escobedo. Other cast members include Tony Hale, Sam Richardson (Veep), and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso).
And here we thought we couldn’t be anymore excited.
8. Thora Birch will not be returning.
Almost 30 years ago, Thora Birch graced the screen as young Dani Dennison. While attempts were reportedly made to include a cameo, scheduling conflicts meant she had to decline the role. Clear your schedule for 2025, Thora. We’ll be waiting for you.
9. The trailer included familiar music.
Listen closely and you’ll notice that the trailer begins with a rendition of “Come Little Children.”
In the original film, Sarah Sanderson sings this song while riding on her broom and hypnotizing all of the Salem children to head to their house. Thank goodness kids have noise-canceling headphones these days.
10. There’s a fun Easter egg from the first film
Check out the scene at the 1:11 marker. Does anything look familiar about the bartender’s costume? It’s the singer from the Town Hall Halloween party from the first movie! We love a good call back to beloved characters. It’s like the past 29 years never happened.
But like…could they have actually never happened?
