As trend predictions for 2022 start to roll in everyone from Pinterest to Ulta has opinions on what’s going to popular next year. And, so far, when it comes to the nail trends for 2022, we like what our crystal ball is showing us. Also, how did Dorothy end up in there again?
From dream-worthy rainbow manicures and periwinkle claws (it’s Pantone’s color of the year) to galaxy nails, 2022 is looking quite polished.
2022 Nail Trends
1. Nail Stickers
Lucky for us slackers, nail stickers are still going strong. If you’re busy, don’t have a steady hand, or just don’t want to do your own nail art, stickers are your best friend. She’ll totally take those 3am calls.

2. Periwinkle Nails
For the first time ever, Pantone created a brand new color – Very Peri – for the color of the year in 2022.
“Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.” But, uh, like, no pressure, PANTONE 17-3938.

3. Press-On Nails
Press-on nails are expected to continue to be a popular choice. If you’re starting to get out of the house more, but still aren’t ready to return to the salon, trying press-ons is a great choice. Then again, we said the same thing about fugu. Sorry about your cousin.

4. Geode Nails
According to Pinterest’s annual trend report, “nail scapes” are expected to be all the rage, from geode nails to ocean and desert nails. We’ll condone a little escapism now and then. Or a lot.
5. Almond Nails
Put away those claws ladies because according to Klarna, coffin nails are out and round nails are in. In fact, Yelp has seen a 146% increase in searches for almond nails.
6. Rainbow Tips
French manis are definitely back but unlike their 2000s counterparts, the modern version has evolved to color. Probably still not in the lines, though. Whether you get your tips painted one colored shade, as an ombre French mani, or using mismatched colors, we think the more the merrier. Which is how we ended up with that sprinkle pool in the backyard.
7. Y2K Nail Art
If the return of the French mani is proof of anything, the Y2K nail design resurgence carries on. We’re going to keep on pretending to live in 2000 with designs that remind us of our trips to Wet Seal.
8. Blue Nail Polish
Along with the usual faves, green shades were especially popular in 2021. But, blue seems to be the choice for 2022, at least according to the New York Fashion Show and Pantone.
9. Galaxy Nails
If 2021 was the year of everyone (read: billionaires) going to space, 2022 is the year your nails will go there too. According to Pinterest, searches for galaxy nails are up 115%. Kind of like the sky above the Earth. Just go with us on this one.
