Just in time for the holidays, Starbucks rolled out a new winter drink on Wednesday: the Merry Mint White Mocha. This seasonal beverage combines the flavors of peppermint and white mocha (read: sugar) all in one glorious beverage. We headed to Starbucks this morning to review the Merry Mint Mocha.
The drink is only available to order through the Starbucks app until December 22nd, at which point it disappears until next year. Or forever. But, we’ve got the details on how to order it anytime.
Our Starbucks Merry Mint White Mocha Review
Ok, so since the Merry Mint Mocha can only be officially ordered through the app, I had to take a slightly different approach. Mostly because I haven’t updated my iOS and I can’t download the app as a result.
On my first attempt, I tried ordering it by name, but the barista wasn’t sure what it was. No worries. I ordered an Iced White Chocolate Mocha with Peppermint Cold Foam.
This is not quite the drink. But it is really really good. I drank the grande in about three minutes on my walk home. The white mocha flavor wasn’t particularly strong. It mostly tasted on cool, creamy peppermint.
Realizing my error (after downing the whole thing), I went to another Starbucks location later in the day and tried ordering it by name again. They didn’t have a button for it (since you can only order it in the app), but the barista told me he knew how to make it by combining an Iced White Chocolate Mocha with Peppermint Chocolate Cream Cold Foam and chocolate curls.
Good news: this is the Merry Mint. Bad news: the first drink was better.
I think that’s because I’m not a big chocolate flavor person. I cannot stand chocolate ice cream. And, since white chocolate mocha is light on flavor, the drink mostly tasted like melted chocolate peppermint ice cream.
Not a fan. That said, the chocolate curls did add a pleasant texture to the cold foam and they’d be a great addition to the first peppermint beverage I erroneously ordered.
What Is the Merry Mint White Mocha?
Starbucks Merry Mint White Mocha is essentially a White Mocha with Peppermint Cold Foam. The holiday beverage is similar to the Iced Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha, except the peppermint flavor is in the Peppermint Cold Foam instead of in the drink.
If that doesn’t sound appealing, here are some other peppermint-flavored Starbucks drinks to try this season.
How Can I Order the Merry Mint Mocha?
The beverage is only available for a limited time, but most of the components are available year-round, so if you want one of these Christmassy drinks during the summer, be our guest.
Here’s how to order it when it’s not on the official menu or you don’t have the app.
- Order an grande Iced White Chocolate Mocha.
- Ask for it to be topped with Peppermint Chocolate Cold Foam and chocolate curls.
Or say, “I’d like a grande Iced White Chocolate Mocha with Peppermint Chocolate Cold Foam and chocolate curls.”
To order it after the Peppermint Cold Foam has left the menu:
- Order an grande Iced White Chocolate Mocha with four pumps of white mocha.
- Ask for Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam.
- Ask for one pump of peppermint syrup and two pumps of mocha to be added to the cold foam.
- Top with chocolate curls.
Or say: “I’d like an Iced Grande White Mocha with four pumps of white mocha sauce and Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam. Please add one pump of peppermint syrup and two pumps of mocha to the cold foam and top the drink with chocolate curls.”
If you want to order what I first ordered (and my preferred beverage), ask for an “Iced White Chocolate Mocha with Peppermint Cold Foam and chocolate curls.”
